There are circa 12 committee members who have minuted meetings three to four times a year to discuss the organization of the group. Most members are also able to help with the weekly setting up and tidying away involved with the group. We set up the hall with toys that are varied weekly and arrange a craft each week.
Our current committee members – Steph Mott (Vice chair), Rebecca Brown (Secretary), Jennifer Owen, Becky Woodcock (Health and Safety Officer), Clare Conway, Claire Jefford (Treasurer), Jan Sanderson (Church Liaison Officer), Rachel Gore-Smith, Dom Todd (who joined us in July 2017), May Garrod (who joined us in January 2018 ), Melissa Bainbridge (who joined us in February 2018), Chris Allin (who joined us in March 2018) and Anne-Marie Rhodes (Chair).
We are sad to see both Laura Harrison and Cathy Topping leave as they stepped down from the committee during this year.
We are pleased to say that there are approximately 30 to 40 children with their parent/s or carers who attend the group on a weekly basis. This included all ages between 0-5 years.
The children can enjoy free play with a variety of toys and a different craft and messy play each week usually in theme with the time of year as well as story time and singing led by Jan Sanderson for the last half hour of the session. Tea and coffee are provided by Jane James, Elaine Upton, Maureen Bemrose and Denise Worrall for the adults and there is juice, fruit and biscuits for the children.
We maximize the space in the church by using both the main room and the smaller room for the children to play in.
On the 24th May 2017 we did a cake sale on behalf of the hospice for the Purple Week. We raised circa £70.
On 15th July 2017, Little Angels Toddler Group hosted a Community Café morning to raise money for new toys and craft. We are happy to say that we made £278.97 that morning. Also in July, we enjoyed our annual Teddy Bear Picnic for our last day of school term year. This was held at the Grange Park.
At the beginning of the new school term, Toddler group hosted a series of events including a Halloween party, a Children in Need cake sale and our Christmas party.
For the Halloween party, the hall was decorated and the children got dressed up. There was a prize for the best dressed which was judged by Helen Roberts.
Our Children in Need cake sale was held in November. We thank everybody for their cake donations and generosity which helped us to raise £75.75
For our Christmas party this year we wanted to make a difference. Therefore in addition to our usual great buffet, presents and visit from Santa (thank you once again to Oli Mott for his help there) we made a donation to a charity. We therefore sold tickets before the event at £1 per child and as a result, we raised £56 which was given to the Salvation Army.
Claire Jefford has also come up with a great idea. Indeed, our littles ones grow out of their clothes and toys so quickly that she thought it would be a lovely idea to bring these items to toddler group to sell them on. We set up a table on a weekly basis for parents/carers to leave their items labelled with name and price. This would enable people who would be interested in buying to come and speak to the seller without that person having to stay at the table all the time. The money received from the sale of these items go directly to the seller. We set up our first table on the 17th January. We hope this will be successful and all involved will benefit from this initiative.
On Wednesday 21st March 2018, we had a cake sale and games for the children for Sport Relief. Yet again, thanks to everybody’s cake donations and generosity we were able to raise £50.08. There were a few cakes left over so Jan Sanderson was very kind as to offer to sell them on the following Sunday which raised an additional £11.
Our Easter 2018 event included an Easter egg hunt with the children, chocolate eggs to share around and a bunny rabbit craft!
