Methodist Women in Britain
District Day Saturday 15th July 2017 at Ashbourne Road Methodist Church, Derby. Following our business meeting, Chandra Mowbray spoke about the Derby Churches Nightshelter, a project involving 7 churches in or near the city centre which provide emergency shelter and a substantial meal for homeless people during the winter months. 265 guests had accessed the nightshelter the previous winter and only two of them didn’t have a more permanent solution at the end. Also under the umbrella of Derby City Mission, Chandra updated us about a Foot Washing Church that has been started at Susanna Wesley House where homeless women can access hairdressing, nail polishing, laundry and showers, with hospitality and prayer and personal dignity. (Thanks to the many from our church who have donated cosmetics and cleansers for this project).
District Day Tuesday 17th October 2017 at St John’s Methodist Church, Standhill Road, Carlton. During our business meeting accounts were presented, and we were advised that Sue Leese would be our next District President and would be inducted at Ashbourne next July. Her chosen charity will be Engelsea Brook Museum where she is a volunteer. After lunch Barbara Maddison gave us a very inspiring talk about the history of, and her involvement with, The National Council of Women, encouraging us to keep on, in spite of the difficulties we may encounter.

8 of our church ladies went on the Thursday to hear our National President Sandra Goodwin talk about her visit to Bolivia in the morning, and the Water of Life in the afternoon, two very different topics but connected through the varying needs around our world – both physical and spiritual.
