Palace presentations for Duke of Edinburgh Gold Participants

On the 29th of November Matthew Hart, who spent much of his volunteer time with the Catholic Church in Radcliffe, and Matthew Horn, who became a volunteer in the Hospice shop, will be meeting the Duke of Edinburgh and be presented with their Gold DofE Awards.
The idea of these awards is to encourage young people to develop as all-round members of our community. They are encouraged to take time out helping others, to take up a constructive and interesting hobby, to maintain a physical activity to maintain good health and to be able to spend time with others not known to them in a residential situation doing something constructive. They also learn to take responsibility for themselves, having to be responsible within a team and learning to make decisions for themselves.
You can talk to these young people and they will tell you the awards have made a difference in their lives. To gain a Bronze award is great, a Silver award amazing but to gain a Gold award is something very very special and it’s something for them to be very proud of.
