• Traidcraft PLC is a Christian company which offers a way for people to trade their way out of poverty.
• Traidcraft Exchange is a business development charity, helping existing businesses to grow, setting up new ones and seeking new products which can be fairly traded.
The weekly Traidcraft stall held after the Sunday Service and the supply of Traidcraft goods directly to the church and the Community Cafe continues. It is a credit to Christine, Ann, Betty and Nan and Peter who have kept the stall going for another year, many thanks go to them. I could not continue without their help but now that I am attending church once a month it will be easier to cover while people are away. Interest in the stall has waned over the last few years but the greeting cards seem to be a real attraction, with chocolate and biscuits also popular.
We have been able to donate £300 to Traidcraft Exchange this past year, which was made up from the profits from stall sales, which have included stalls at the Advent Fair, Rushcliffe Borough Council and Lady Bay Community Choir. In addition to this the Big Brew at the Community Cafe held in February and the Lady Bay Community Choir specifically raised £257 for the Hidden Entrepreneurs Appeal, which will be match funded by the UK Government, giving a total of £514 towards this fund.
I would be encouraged if more people saw that by supporting the stall they would be helping those far less fortunate than themselves, even buying something once a month would increase donations.
More information on the Hidden Entrepreneurs Appeal at https://www.traidcraft.org.uk/hidden/ When people in developing countries are given the right opportunities and training, they can build businesses that enable them to leave poverty behind for good. Together, we will help hidden entrepreneurs in Kenya, Senegal and Bangladesh turn their potential into profit.
