What's All This About Chocolate?

Is there a problem? Whether we’re celebrating or commiserating, chocolate is a sweet and familiar companion for many.  But what about cocoa’s other side? Look at  the social and environmental costs to make delicious chocolate and it leaves a bitter taste. Many children working in cocoa carry out hazardous tasks, such as clearing forests with sharp machetes, carrying heavy sacks of cocoa and handling dangerous pesticides. There have also been some incidences of children being trafficked from neighbouring countries and forced to work in cocoa farms against their will.

So, what can we do about it?  As consumers, we know we have the power to drive sweeping industry change by holding major chocolate brands accountable for their impact on people and the planet. There is a movement of informed chocolate consumers demanding change.
